Mount Carmel High School pupils paid respect to the Accrington Pals and all who have lost their lives in service for their country.

The occasion was marked with a service attended by 760 pupils and all staff in the school yard. The school brass band played, the school choir sang and History teacher Miss Mortensen explained the significance of the tribute to the Accrington Pals from the East Lancashire Regiment.

School chaplain Luke Bradbury read prayers and a reading before the Last Post was played by music teacher Miss Javaid signalling the beginning of two minutes silence.

Mount Carmel pupils Chelsea and Kiera who are army and air cadets accompanied by Mr Livesey, who is Assistant Pastoral Leader Year 10 and is a former Army Warrant Officer Class One who served for over 24 years presented poppy wreaths as a sign of respect.
