A popular and competitive inter-primary quiz; ‘Excited for English’ was held at Mount Carmel High School following on from the ‘Mad 4 Maths’ quiz held in the Autumn term.
The ‘Excited for English’ quiz was this year won by a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils from St. Mary’s R.C. Primary in Oswaldtwistle.

The annual quiz is organised by Mount Carmel and hosted by the English department. The team from St. Mary’s fought off competition from another 10 primary school teams to win the title.

Initial rounds took place in Mount Carmel’s school hall and included an author crossword challenge, a conundrum challenge and an interactive Harry Potter comprehension round using tablet computers. The pupils were then tasked to solve clues to a challenge in the newly refurbished school library.

A ‘Spelling Bee’ round on the school stage was a tense climax to the quiz with a representative from each team taking up the challenge.

The team from St. Mary’s R.C. Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors came in second place and St. Oswald’s R.C. Primary in third place.

Mount Carmel pupils assisted and were ambassadors for the school during the course of the evening. Trophies, prizes and certificates were awarded to the winning teams.

Around 90 parents/grandparents/primary school staff came along to support the primary pupils and had the opportunity to enter a parents’ prize quiz and raffle. Refreshments were served during the interval by Mount Carmel Parent Teacher and Friends Association.

A ‘Crazy for Science’ quiz is due to take place at Mount Carmel in February to complete the inter-primary challenges for the year.
