Mount Carmel pupil leadership team went on an informative and enjoyable two day visit to London.

They were invited to take a tour of the Houses of Parliament, and participate in a workshop on laws and debating and a Q&A with Hyndburn's MP, Sara Britcliffe.

Pupils witnessed a live debate in the House of Commons with the Education Secretary, saw discussions in the House of Lords and even took part in the one minute silence for Baroness Boothroyd. Pupils asked Sara about various issues currently affecting them and big topics being discussed in government, such as Net Zero, the cost of living crisis and improvements to transport in Hyndburn.

Pupils then enjoyed a ride on the London Eye and had dinner in Central London. They were really fortunate to have a view of the London Eye from their hotel rooms and have huge breakfasts each day!

During the second day pupils took a boat ride down the Thames to the Tower of London. Once at the Tower of London, pupils enjoyed a Beefeater tour and learnt plenty about the history of the iconic landmark. At the end of the tour, they spoke to the Beefeater who told them about her involvement in the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II and the preparations for the Coronation of King Charles in May.

We would like to thank Dan’s Trust for their generous donation towards the visit, which enabled our pupils to have this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Hopefully, it has inspired them to be the leaders of the future!
