Mount Carmel celebrated the achievements of pupils during their annual Awards Evening.

The event began with an opening performance by our Head Girl Sophia Bellusci who performed a dance she choreographed titled 'Friendship'.

The guest speaker was Murray Dawson who is a former pupil of Mount Carmel R.C. High School. Murray has built a business in the local area over the last 30 years employing more than 40 employees in the print and marketing service. He has also been chair of the #AmazingAccrington business leaders group since he formed it in 2016 with the aim to create a positive feeling for Hyndburn and improve outcomes and support for residents and businesses.

Murray kindly presented subject and trophy awards to our Year 11 class of 2025. 

Special awards were then presented to pupils for outstanding involvement and achievement in school life. 

  • The Agnes Molloy Award was presented to Kieran McKean for bringing honour to the school by example and achievement.
  • The Christine Almond Award for commendable academic progress and achievement was presented to Rose Lamour.
  • The Dominic Sanderson Award was presented to Holly Harward for cheerful and enthusiastic involvement within the school.
  • The Headteacher's Award for services to Mount Carmel as Head Boy and Head Girl was presented to Kieran McKean and Edie Winstanley.
  • The Mount Carmel Trophy was awarded to Younes Hilal for excellent GCSE performance in the face of adversity.
  • The Good Citizen Award for outstanding service to the school and local community was awarded to Eleanor Clunie.
  • Journey Awards were presented to Tristen Bamford and Ruby Smith to recognise the challenges faced on a daily basis, challenges that many of us take for granted.

Memorial Awards donated in the honour of loved ones who worked at or were associated with Mount Carmel were then presented.

  • The Nicola Hughes memorial award for dedication to language studies was presented to Levi Wright by Nicola's brother Gareth.
  • The Ken Hargreaves Memorial Trophy for outstanding achievement in science was presented to Rohith Sibichen
  • The Dean Desmond Award was presented to Mr Robert Smith (Bob) for his long and outstanding service to Mount Carmel R.C. High School. 

Headteacher Mr Bowers then addressed the audience. He thanked the school community for coming together to celebrate and recognise the many achievements of our pupils; for their attainment, achievement and for being role models for others.

He commented on how the Class of 2025 not only just achieved fantastic exam results but showed great resilience, courage and learned how to adapt to change.

He reminded them that Mount Carmel is more than a school, it truely is a family all caring for each other with Faith being a steady guide throughout helping everyone grow in all areas of life.

He thanked parents and carers for their support and hoped all pupils took away many happy memories from their time at school. He passed on our very best wishes to them all as they make the step their next step in life into further education or employment. He explained they each have a purpose in life and to be kind, considerate peacemakers, taking the values of Mount Carmel with them. He asked them to let their talents, hard work and faith guide them in life.

Mr Bowers extended thanks to Mount Carmel's dedicated governing body who work tirelessly for the good of all at Mount Carmel. He then thanked Chair of Governors Mr Dabrowski and the Governing Body for their continued dedicated support. 

Head Boy Cole and Head Girl Sophia gave a vote of thanks to the speaker Murray Dawson, staff & organisers of the event as well as parents/carers of the pupils.

Mount Carmel Chair of Governors Mr Andrew Dabrowski gave the final address of the evening. He described how Mount Carmel had high expectations for pupils and the quality of education they received was of a very high standard. He thanked the pupils for showing great resilience, kindness and compassion and that everyone was very proud of their achievements. He thanked Mr Bowers and all the staff at Mount Carmel for providing a challenging and supportive environment and he hoped parents were very proud of what their children had achieved.

The evening concluded with a photographic review of their five years at Mount Carmel.
