Mount Carmel held an Eco Champions day with the theme of 'Our Planet, Our Responsibility - Guardians of God's Creation' inviting partner primary school Eco teams along to participate with Mount Carmel's Eco team in a range of activities.

42 pupils from St. Oswald’s, Sacred Heart, St. Mary's Oswaldtwistle, Hippings, Green Haworth, St. Peter's, St. Anne's & St. Joseph's and Mount Carmel participated in ECO activities during the course of a fun-filled day.

The pupils looked at and discussed the different sources of energy ranging from fossil fuels to renewable sources. They undertook a scientific experiment with potatoes, oranges and lemons to see how these simple food sources can generate electricity to potentially generate power to be used as battery storage!

The pupils then went outside and were shown the areas on Mount Carmel's school roof where solar panels have been installed followed by viewing an aerial photograph of the panels.

After a tasty lunch in the Twelve Star Diner the pupils were asked to design a poster that highlighted the problems with relying on fossil fuels and how we can encourage people to reduce the amount of energy we get from fossil fuels in our school and at home.

Presentations from each school group took place on the stage explaining the aspects they found of particular importance. It is hoped that the posters would be displayed in each of the primary schools to highlight many of the aspects discussed during the day.

Thank you to Mr Blair for leading the day.
