The MC Saints Flag Football team had the first Bears League U15 Girls' tournament of the season yesterday and started the competition off strong with three wins from four, beating Denton Academy 19-0, Oasis Oldham 29-0, and Thornleigh 28-18. Everyone contributed and played well across the board, and it was especially great to see five new players who joined the team after Easter get their first game experience - they were thrown in at the deep end but played with confidence and fit right in, and two even got on the score sheet.
Player awards went to the following players:
- Offensive MVP - Poppy A: Despite being a Year 7 playing against mainly Year 10s, Poppy showed no fear and scored four touchdowns.
- Defensive MVP - Liv G: A real captain's performance, led the team in tackles and helped to support new players throughout.
- Overall MVP - Georgia M: Georgia excelled on both sides of the ball with five touchdowns and four interceptions on the day.
- Coaches' Player of the Tournament: Poppy T: Coaches' Player goes to someone who delivered a strong performance that doesn't show up in the stats, and Poppy was a great example of that. She set the tone for the tournament with consistency and great decision making at quarterback in every game and didn't put a foot wrong all day, getting the team into strong positions early to allow inexperienced players to come into the game with less pressure on their shoulders.
Special mention also to Ruby M who in her first tournament ran the length of the pitch the score her first ever touchdown in one of the best plays of the day!
