Mount Carmel has been chosen as one of the first 100 schools in England to receive Department for Education funding for solar panels. Guided by experts at Barker Associates the school has had 288 new solar panels installed alongside 6 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
Once the new system is fully up and running, it is estimated that the school will save just over £2,000 every month on energy bills. These 288 new panels are additional to the 197 solar panels the school already had, which were previously funded by Mount Carmel and the Diocese of Salford.
Leading the way to a greener future this project marks a massive milestone in Mount Carmel's four-year journey towards becoming carbon neutral.
Headteacher, Mr Xavier Bowers, shared his excitement about the project: "Mount Carmel is delighted to be part of this important investment in cleaner, more sustainable energy. This initiative comes at the perfect time to help us take our next major step. It reduces our bills and allows us to reinvest savings directly back into our pupils’ education, aligning fully with our commitment to looking after our environment. Our ECO Co-ordinator, Mr Michael Blair, is equally thrilled. He notes that the new panels will serve as a fantastic, highly visible teaching tool. They will help our pupils learn about climate change, sustainability, and the real-world changes needed to protect our planet. A huge thank you to everyone involved in powering up Mount Carmel for a brighter, greener future!"
