World Book Day took place on Thursday 2nd March 2023 and there was plenty going on around Mount Carmel to celebrate.

Staff dressed up as their favourite book characters for the day- much to our pupils’ amusement- there were some very inventive costumes!

During form time, pupils were given their free World Book Day book and pupils put the finishing touches to the classroom doors for the inter-form decorate a door.

Pupils spent the first five minutes of each lesson during the day reading the opening of various novels that have recently been added to the library. Pupils used their reciprocal reading skills to summarise and predict what was going to happen next.

There were many activities happening in the library to celebrate the day. Pupils got involved in a ‘who’s behind the book?’ competition and a spin the wheel challenge.

Finally, year 7 and 8 pupils participated in a charity readathon over the past three weeks. Pupils have started to bring in their sponsorship money and have already raised nearly £700! A brilliant effort.
